first_imgDonegal supporters have vented their anger at the criticism aimed at the Donegal management and players by ‘bandwagon’ fans following Sunday’s Ulster SFC final defeat to Monaghan. Some sections of the s0-called Donegal support blasted the Donegal players and management after their narrow one-point loss. The ‘bandwagon’ fans took their social media timelines on Facebook and Twitter to have a pop at most of the players with some even saying manager Rory Gallagher wasn’t up to the job. The scathing criticism drew an angry reaction from the majority of Donegal supporters appalled at how these so-called ‘fans’ can turn on their team so quickly.Donegal fans were quick to remind the forgetful ‘bandwagon brigade’ of the joy and euphoria the team has given us over the last number of years.Donegal supporter Conor Comack posted on his Facebook timeline, “I cannot get over what I am reading.“Some people should be ashamed of themselves for turning on our team. “They had on off day in the shooting department, is there anybody that is slating them great everyday?“Get behind your team folks and be proud to support the green and gold.“If we get to the final the people slating the team and management will be first in the queue for tickets I bet. Donegal Gaa Abú.Donegal supporter Frank McGettigan posted the following powerful message on his Facebook timeline.“For all of you have been so openly critical of our Donegal footballers today I’m very proud of you. They took us all to Clones (Again) and deliberately lost. “Let’s blame the manager, or blame the referee, and the players while were at it.“Sure Murphy was rubbish, so was Lacey, and even the McGees were useless. How dare they take us all the way to Clones on such a good day with a promise of a life hereafter?“We could have gone to the beach or had a barbeque; instead we were ge…tting up at the crack of dawn and sitting in traffic jams drinking warm water while getting our arses stewed. “We even had to pay for the pleasure. As for Monaghan, how dare they. What makes them entitled to win our Ulster final? They’re useless and never even won an All Ireland in their lives. “The late soccer legend Jimmy Greaves was wrong when he said “Football is a funny old game”, I’m sure he meant Gaelic. “The world didn’t end yesterday, nor was anyone useless. Some players may have been below par yet can we begrudge them that on a hot day and in bodies and legs that have given so much, taken so many hits and indeed countless operations. Didn’t they give us almost five of the most wonderful exciting years in our footballs history? Didn’t they give us pride to wear our gold jerseys as we travelled up the road to Clones and a Croke Park that’s almost become a second home? “Is eaten bread so soon forgotten? Did we forget in a day the heroic majestic Murphy who has pulled so many rabbits out of his hat when we needed them most? “Or Lacey turning over the best in the land or putting over that insurance point against Cork in 2012. The McGee’s, the rock on which all our dreams were built. How easy it is to forget what and who made us proud. “For these heroes yesterday didn’t start at two pm. It started before Christmas last in the dark, in rain and hail in countless locations as we sat with our feet up watching Coronation ST. or Eastenders in front of a blazing fire. “They were at home nursing their injuries while we were out socialising like normal human beings. That’s where we expected them to be if they were not at work. “Sure didn’t they have an Ulster Final to win for us on the way to Croker for another All Ireland shot? We have our pride to think on after all, do they not realise that? Isn’t it worth all the sacrifice and pain? “Don’t we have they right to slag them off if they fail? Sure didn’t we give up a day at the beach to go and support them? Now that I think about it, I might just not bother going to support them any-more; sure they’re hardly worth it. Anyway, don’t we have fair bit of pride to be getting on with. Five Ulster finals in the same amount of years, two All Ireland finals, and a semi-final a quarter final and who knows yet. I might actually go back once more but they better not let me down this time.
