Harper remains a free agent as pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training this week, but his timeline has gone pretty much how J.D. Martinez and Eric Hosmer’s did last year. Those two players share an agent in Scott Boras with Harper and they both waited to sign until February.Hosmer signed Feb. 19 of last year and Martinez waited all the way until Feb. 28. “I keep hearing there’s a lot of momentum and traction here on him going and signing with the Philadelphia Phillies,” Bowden said on CBS Sportsline Saturday. “And he could be rounding third and heading to home shortly.”I’m hearing they’re pretty well down the process here.” Related News Phillies’ Gabe Kapler outlines how he would manage Bryce Harper, Manny Machado It looks like Bryce Harper is staying in the National League East. The Phillies are in the lead to land the superstar outfielder and the Nationals are a distant second, according to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden. Harper has no intention of signing a short-term deal, and according to The Athletic, he is going to get a deal north of 10 years and $300 million like he was asking for all along. The Nationals reportedly offered him that exact deal before the season came to an end last year, but he decided he wanted to test free agency.”Every indication I get is he’s going to get at least 10 years and he’s going to get more than $300 million,” Bowden said. “That has not changed and nor have my two favorite places for him, Philadelphia (No.) 1 clearly and a distant (No.) 2 Washington.”The White Sox and Padres have also shown interest in signing Harper to a big deal. The Giants and Dodgers were looking at giving him a short-term contract.
Lazio win the Italian Super Cup. photo via @iF2isRiyadh, Saudi Arabia | AFP | Lazio won the Italian Super Cup for a fifth time on Sunday, defeating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus 3-1 in a game played in the Saudi Arabia capital of Riyadh.“We did something magical tonight,” said Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi.Lazio, the only team to have defeated Juve in Serie A this season, were in front through Luis Alberto after 16 minutes.Paulo Dybala levelled just before the break after a shot from Ronaldo was parried into his path by Lazio’s Albanian goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.Despite boasting the attacking talents of Ronaldo, Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain, it was the Roman side who looked more likely the next to score.Bosnian international Senad Lulic restored Lazio’s advantage in the 73rd minute with an impressive volley.Danilo Cataldi added a third in the fourth minute of stoppage time from a free kick after Juve’s Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur had been sent off.Lazio had already defeated Juve 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A two weeks ago — until Sunday that was the only defeat suffered by Maurizio Sarri in his time as coach.“We did something magical — to beat Juve twice in two weeks is incredible,” Inzaghi told Rai Sport. “I think this was another deserved victory for a strong team that always believed in our ideas.”The Serie A match in Rome was a world away from Sunday’s proceedings in the King Fahd Stadium where women supporters were allowed to attend.Ronaldo was the main reason the fans came to watch and Juve obviously took the occasion on board with their famed black and white shirts sporting Arabic designs.Juve are no strangers to Saudi Arabia having won the Super Cup in Jeddah in January this year, beating AC Milan 1-0.The Turin giants had been looking to win the trophy for a ninth time.Juventus will now turn their attentions to defending their Serie A title. They are currently level at the top of the table with Inter Milan while Lazio are third, six points off the pace.Share on: WhatsApp

By Chris Rotolo | OCEANPORT – Following seven years of legal battles the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) announced its decision on Monday morning that Monmouth Park Racetrack had won its right to sports betting, a decision that ruled the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) as unconstitutional.“We started this fight back in 2012 and are grateful that the Supreme Court has recognized that we’ve been right all along,” said Dennis Drazin, the chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, in a statement released shortly after the announcement.Drazin spent the better part of a decade entangled in this fight to preserve the future of Monmouth Park. He has expressed confidence in interviews and at the racetrack’s annual opening luncheon Wedneday that victory was assured. With that notion in mind, Drazin revealed that Monmouth Park had already expanded the first floor gaming area of the grandstand at the William Hill Race & Sports Bar.Oceanport Borough Council President Joe Irace believes sports wagering at the racetrack is approaching quickly.“I understand that they already have wagering machines on site, the grandstand has been redone, and I believe they’re in a position to be accepting wagers within the next two weeks,” Irace said Monday.Oceanport Mayor Jay Coffey said this decision has solidified the future of a Jersey Shore institution in an era when the health of the horse racing industry is uncertain.“The racetrack industry is not a standalone industry anymore,” Coffey said. “This is the first step in a multi-step journey that will allow for other types of revenues to come to Monmouth Park…And it’s a win for all of us. Because the better they do, the better it is for Oceanport.”There is more to come on this developing story as Drazin is expected to speak today at a 1 p.m. press conference at the William Hill Race & Sports Bar in Oceanport.
